5 Stars Sony KDLV-55V5100
The TV arrived 2 days prior of it’s promised delivery time in perfect condition. The delivery drivers from Pilot Freight also set it up in short order. Thank you Amazon and Pilot for the excellent service. Immediately after delivery Dishnetwork installed the HD connection to it. It runs mostly still on the factory settings, although I found on the Internet a set of settings for it recommneded by an expert evaluator, but I did not attempt to follow those recommendations yet, because it is OK as it is. Also there was 1 available software update from Sony which I carried-out, just in case. The TV itself is working perfectly and provides a movie teather-like experience and I can even see it (MOST IMPORTANTLY) without my glasses on, from my normal viewing point about 9′ away. The visibility aspect is very important to me because I no longer could see my trusty old 27″-er even with my glasses on. Before I received it, I was worrying that I purchased a TV too large for my small viewing room, but this fear was laid to rest after the first few minutes of viewing, because it’s picture resolution is so good that I can stand next to it without experiencing any grainyness or any other optical problems. It appears that there is no TV too large!! Everything on the new TV is wonderful especially it’s picture quality, and this is even more true in HD. It needed a real high speed HDMI cable though (Sony DLC-HD10HF) to uncork it’s full potential, instead of the little inexpensive no name brand HDMI cable I first used to connect the TV to the DVR receiver. The possible quality exception is maybe it’s overall sound quality, which is suprisingly enough inferior to my 11 year old Philips CRT TV. Interestingly enough the sound volume of a given HD channell is also much lower than the same of it’s non HD counterpart, without any extra volume adjustment. The so called surround sound effect although modifies the sound is not to my liking either. Please consider all these sound issues one man’s ears only! Therefore I am considering to add some extra speakers later on. The Sony HT-CT100 or 500 soundbar sytem respectively, come here to mind. These are designed for Bravia TV-s (Bravia Link). Too bad that these soundbar systems have no stock attachment to the KDLV model. Also mornings, when I first start it up, the DVR receiver or the TV or both, respond sluggishly only to the commmads of the remote for a minute or two. This is no longer apparent for the rest of the day. Originally I considered the Samsung LN 55B630 and/or the Sharp Aqous LC55E77U as possible other choices. The Sony KDLV being a new model this year also, is overall an excellent purchase especially considering the purchase price and the 12 month no interest payment terms from Amazon. Now if it only would provide a trouble free decade of service like my old Philips TV did I would be completely happy with it.

3 Stars Improperly packed TV
We received the TV with damaged screen. Noted the screen was not protected at all – no packaging provided on screen to prevent any damge during shipping. Nothing in between the outer cardboard packing and the LCD screen absolutely. Just chucked the TV out in garbage (am sure nobody will be willing to cover the loss of the cost of TV, by giving flimsy excuses). $1600 down the drain… Shall udate if any further developments after contacting the seller.

So far I am pleased with my TV. However I am not to happy with the remote control, the mute button and other bottons are too small & will tend to slip below thremote face. I contacted sony but got no satisfaction from them. they said I should buy a universal remote. thats no help. maybe Amazon can do somthing. please TRY. thank you.

5 Stars I bought this one year ago
I decided to wait one year after purchasing this to write a review. After one year this TV has performed flawlessly. It is a great value, beautiful picture quality and easy to operate. I watch hockey, which is a fast moving game and the 120 Hz is just the anwer to the fast puck movement. Fast delivery and easy set-up. A completly satisfied purchase.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

5 Stars Amazing features for a low price……dont think..just buy it…and buy it only from Amazon
This TV is simply superb. Me n my wife were saving money since last 13 months….we were going to buy a 52″ or above TV in the thanksgiving sale…but we saw this TV for 1546$ and it came with a free Sony Blue ray DVD home theater system (BDV-E300) at that time and we bought it.

The TV is simply amazing. The crystal clear quality, the amazing Dolby sound. But the best feature is its internet capability……i connected an Ethernet cable to the TV and the TV automatically did the rest. I could just go down to the Network option and access Youtube, Yahoo & lot more applications. The XMB bar makes scrolling between different options very very easy.

I did a lot of research on which TV is the best…i compared dynamic ratios, response times, frequencies etc. etc. but the best thing to do is go to best buy or frys….look at each TV that you are considering and buy the one that you feel is the best….all TV have same performance….it just has to please your mind…..

Also, make sure you buy the TV only from Amazon. I have never seen such class of customer service like amazon provides. When i bought the system, the price was 1589$ and in 2 days it dropped to 1540$. I simply called Amazon and said the price just dropped and they gave me a refund of 59$ and matched the price. The TV was delivered before time, and the guy who delivered it installed it on my TV stand and turned on the power for me.

The blue ray system i got was defective and a blue ray DVD that i rented from block buster got stuck in it…..again…Amazon to the rescue….Amazon arranged for UPS to pick it up from my house….they are going to send me a brand new system again…..they even reimbursed me for the price of a new blue ray DVD which i had to pay Block buster……Seriously…Amazon rules….

I am very happy with the TV and amazon…

5 Stars Great TV…Great Price…..
I saw this TV at a local electronics store and decided it was the one. I was pretty amazed at the deal i got from Vann’s…..but honestly i was a little nervous about the whole process of having a 52″ TV shipped to me directly. Vanns was great….i asked for standard shipping and it arrived just 2 days later. The box was PERFECT.

The TV is great…it look great…performs great….I’m still learning the features but together with Direct TV HD, it makes football games an absolute joy. The look of the TV is top notch, and i really like the low glare screen. on both fronts this TV beats the glossy Samsungs. I think the internet widgets are cool, altho i don’t have them hooked up yet. The only thing i wish i had was a swivel stand, but that is minor. For the money i paid, i could NOT be happier.

4 Stars Nice TV
Bought it at the local BB a few months ago. Could’ve gotten more features from other brands at about the same price; or same features and size for less money but wife wanted a Sony, so for our budget we had to settle for this entry model. The set up was very easy and overall very user-friendly.

Had the same dimming problem many had. Tried to download the fix via Sony’s website but the TV woudln’t recognize any of my USB drive, so we called Sony to send a drive to us and problem mostly fixed. On some of the dark scenes it seems like the TV still want to dimm out but is fighting itself.

The stand feels kind of flimsy but is holding up so far. The internal speakers are surprisingly good. Not surround or anything but they are loud and relatively clean. The TV quality is good so for fast-action sport games.

Overall, it’s a very nice unit.

5 Stars Great product
Got this television for my 87 year old grandfather’s birthday. He loves it. Mounted it on the wall with no problem. I actually saved hundreds of dollars ordering from amazon as opposed to going in a retail store. And, my purchase was delivered before the scheduled date which made it even better. Excellent tv, quality picture, quality service. Most definately recommend.

5 Stars KDL-46XBR8 46 Inch Review
This TV is excellent. The picture quality is the best I have ever seen. The sound is excellent. If you buy this TV, you will not regret it. Also, OneCall is a prompt company. I ordered this TV on the 16 of Nov and I received it on the 18 of Nov. If you have the cash, buy this TV.

5 Stars Newly Purchased SONY KDL 46XBR8
Picture quality and color quality is fantastic. This is our first LCD flat screen TV. We had a 28 inch CRT for 20+ years… We are still blown away with the colors. We initially planned on a 40-42 inch, now that we have the 46 we are not disappointed, ..50?55?..hmmm No more room actually on our new TV console.

Sound quality leaves a bit to be desired. The speakers are just to small to have any quality sound. We have a stereo system that we may have to incorporate with the TV watching.

The one feature I was initially disappointed with was the lack of USB port recognition with a flash drive. Sony claims not all USB devices will work and recommends the SONY Micro Vault Flash drive to be compatible. Well after doing some web searching I did find some helpful info on the Sony eSupport page. After learning the USB device must be FAT32 formatted I now can upload photographs (.jpg files) from even the least expensive flash drive. I just re-formatted a SanDisk 250MB flashdrive and then a “micro center” 2GB flash drive I got for free!. After re-formatting to FAT32 the SONY recognizes the drive and I can now view my collection of digital photos. I must add that when viewing good quality .jpg’s (2-3meg size) the SONY displays the pics as sharp as a tack!!..the shots look the best I’ve ever seen. The colors are so real looking you feel as though you could touch the object as in real life. Now I can pursue getting my 1000+ 35mm slides from Germany and England while in the service (40 years ago!) converted to .jpg files. What better way to show all the slides as compared to to old slide projector/screen method…so archaic!

I did learn as well at the eSupport Site there is a software update available for the set. I’ll be contacting Sony soon to verify if our set needs the update as we just purchased the TV 2 weeks ago.

Tip: Get the Support Belt Kit, Part #X21866021, to secure it to your console. You don’t want this massive set to inadvertently topple over. Would recommend this set…the Sony’s all outperformed other LCD’s we looked at as far as color quality. At least that was my wife’s opinion..she has a better eye for color I have to admit. Enjoy, Jack

5 Stars A great TV for 95% of us
Here are the things I like about this TV:

1) great image: extremely clear, bright, crisp edges, excellent-vibrant colors.

2) great UI: the best remote, switches between inputs easily, good TV Guide to browse channels.

3) great with standard definition images: best by far of all other TV’s.

4) great sound: great Sony sound with no need for external speakers like most other flat panels (unless you want 5.1).

5) cosmetically appealing: one of the best looking TV’s out there.

What I don’t like:

1) flashlighting: yes, this TV does have the dreaded flashlighting that everybody complains about. It’s only visible on less than .5% of images and most of those are the all-black screens when programming switches between a show and a commercial.

Conclusion: If you are planning to hook this up directly to cable (perhaps a cable box or a series 2 Tivo) and still plan to watch alot of standard definition TV, this is about the best TV you’ll find. If you are planning on getting an amp, 5.1 speakers, a universal remote, and basically using this set as a monitor only, you might want to move on to a cheaper set because all the UI and sound benefits with the XBR line would not be used.

5 Stars Stunning picture
I can’t believe this TV cost less than the 20″ Sharp LCD I bought 4 years ago. This will keep me satisfied until OLED technology becomes available (and much cheaper!). Don’t worry about shopping with Crutchfield, they were very easy and helpful to use. I would shop there again.

4 Stars Excellent TV
I recommended my friend this product. The clarity was very good. Definitely a better option to go for if you spend your leisure in time n watching TV to have agreat enjoyment.

5 Stars great TV
Like so many other reviewers here I thoroughly researched this purchase. I had narrowed my choices down to several Sony models, but delayed while trying to sort out the “good points” and “bad points” brought up in the various reviews. I now realize that delay was unnecessary. I’m thoroughly satisfied with this W model TV, and I suspect any of the other Sony models would be equally impressive. I think that some of the details that reviewers mention to be wary of may be noticeable only to the most finicky or “finely tuned-in” consumers. Overall this TV is stunning. One big reason we went with a Sony was the less glossy screen than Samsung. Our viewing room has a solid wall of windows but we have found there is virtually no glare coming from the matte-finish screen. Even viewing in broad daylight is stunning. The clarity of the picture is almost overwhelming to one used to an “old-fashioned TV”. The delivery and setup from Amazon went without a hitch. The TV did arrive a few days ahead of schedule but that was not a problem. A feature of this model that we really appreciate is the built-in TV schedule guide (we get all our reception over-the-air with an antenna). The TV Guide works great. The remote is pretty intuitive, and after sitting down with it and the manual for about 20 minutes I had it pretty well figured out. One slightly annoying feature that comes set up on the TV is the Sony Logo at the bottom of the screen which is lit while the set is on. This can easily be turned off with the remote, which makes for a better viewing experience. We have the set hooked up to a basic Sony DVD player (not Blu-Ray) with an HDMI cable and again, the clarity is exceptional. It’s hard to imagine that Blu-Ray could be much better. And finally, the sound quality of the TV, out of the box, is very adequate. We haven’t hooked up any sort of additional sound system. Maybe later if we want to get fancy, but it’s really impressive the way it is. So for anyone out there trying to make that final decision, I’d say you can’t go wrong if you get this particular model, and you’re probably fine with any Sony out there. And Amazon is a good way to go as well.

4 Stars One of my more tasteful reviews
So here is the bottom line on this Sony…

1. Beautiful appeal, the product simply leaps out of the box it will actually look better then described.

2. The options truly due seem limitless, picture, screen, sound, and more with stunning capabilities to adjust even the very finest of viewing detail.

3. The TV menu (if you like the PS3 styling) is wonderful and currently supasses most of what is on the market.

4. When other reviewers speak of 3D like picture quality yes this is very true, the color reproduction of this TV is outstanding and with the Bravia Engine 2 you will enjoy very life like images.

5. The TVs internal software is updatable with a USB stick there is one update available at the time of this review, very neat feature.

6. The built in TV Guide feature is amazing with listings for almost every channel, it will tell you whats on and whats next with many search features (need not apply for those of you with cable boxs)

7. Many inputs and ways to select them very simple and easy to use.

8. The TV will dim/adjust the screen brightness based on the lighting in your room.

Issues noticed:

1. The TV will create a “new plastic odor” when turned on for the first couple weeks however this is not an issue for most people since the smell is not too strong and is that of just plastic.

2. The software runs a tad slow and will lag minorly but is well worth it for its capabilites, also the TV takes a few moments to load.

3. The TV will give off a slight hummmm while turned on this can be very irritating in a quite room.

4. I received a complimentary small scratch on the stand that came with mine, just a thought for the QC conscious

For those who are wondering the digtal compression artifacts and picture judder (MPEG noise) etc is very tolerable on this TV with many options to smooth out such things, also channel changing SD to SD is fairly quick.

In summation this TV is a good buy, lots of inputs and nice styling with solid performance to back it up.

As always, happy shopping =)

4 Stars Great picture, good value.
After years of our other Sony, got this for a song as a model closeout. Although the sound is weak,as with all HDTV reviews, with the home theatre set up it’s an exceptional TV. Twenty years of loving Sony TVs.

5 Stars Usual Sony Quality
After looking and comparing HDTV’s for several months I finally decided to opt out for top quality as opposed to size… I have always been very happy with Sony products and this is no exception… I am well pleased and glad that I chose the KDL-32XBR6… I look forward to many hours of pleasure… I was also pleased with the delivery, which was free… Pilot was the delivery service and delivered two days early….

5 Stars Excellent TV – Excellent Price
We currently have a 40″ Sony LCD TV and had been looking for another LCD TV with a matte black frame. Since our other one is a Sony, when we finally found this one it was an easy choice. There is still a thin reflective outer piece around the frame, however this is by far the best out there if you dislike the reflective frames found on 99% of the TV’s out there. For the price you cant beat it!

I don’t mind that it’s only 720p because I don’t notice a difference. The other Sony we have is also 720p and has a better HD picture than some newer 1080p models I compared it to.

Overall its an excellent TV. My only complaint is that this is the largest size available in the L series.

5 Stars Great tv – perfect size
Great tv- Sony quality and the 37″ was the perfect size to fit into my tv cabinet.

5 Stars Great Picture. TV is finally off in the morning!
Auto-off feature is really nice. I’m not as green as I should be, but this set has solved my teenager falling asleep with the TV on all night. Picture is great, menu/settings are very user friendly, and only ports with an item plugged in are in the “input” rotation on the remote. Highly recommend.

One weird thing about the White Glove delivery from Amazon. They showed up on time, and even phoned ahead…very nice, plus set the TV up and took the garbage. However during the setup the TV searches for channels automatically. When this seemed to be going slow, the delivery guy says “this can take awhile the first time it runs”, and my wife let them leave. After performing a “search” for about 30 minutes I discovered that they had used input cables from a DVD player that was not hooked up to the satellite system. I simply plugged an HDMI cable from the dish to the TV…and whammo…200+ channels almost instantly.

Everything else was great. I would make a similar purchase again with Amazon without hesitation.

5 Stars I love it !
This TV is awesome! the picture is great and the sound is prety good.

5 Stars A great TV
Terrific picture, especially on the HDTV channels. Controls, etc., are straightforward and intuitive. Sound is just a tad softer than I’d prefer, but it’s not bad. Could easily hook a secondary sound system to it, but haven’t bothered. My previous TV, an Olevia 32″, was the same width, but with side-by speakers it lost a full 8″ of screen size. The Bravia is exactly the same width, only a couple of inches taller, and delivers a 25% larger screen. The 240hz upgrade is definitely noticeable. If you’re on HD, it’s the only way to fly. Plan to hook it to my laptop and take advantage of online TV-movie selections. This set also connects to the Internet, if you have the correct cables or signal devices. That’s on the agenda, too.

Don’t fear the delivery service, my experience was excellent: They arrived when promised, brought it upstairs, unpacked it, hooked it up, and carted away all the trash. Buying via Amazon beats going to a big-box store and having to do all that yourself — and the price I paid was more than $200 *below* my local big-box store for the same TV. Free delivery, too. Couldn’t be happier.

5 Stars Sony 40 inch HD TV

5 Stars Beautiful
Absolutly beautiful TV. 1080p and 120 Hz is an awsome combination. Highly recommend this TV. The extra cost for this is truly worth it.

5 Stars The BRAVIA ‘sweet spot’.
I picked this TV because it has great features and is reasonably priced. It’s near the mid-point of the BRAVIA line, and has many of the important features of the XBR series TV’s, but at a more reasonable price. The 120mhz Motion Flow technology was a big selling point.

This unit is identical to the Bravia W4100 series, except the lower portion is BLACK instead of silver.

The full specifications of this model are available on the Sony Style website under ‘business’ sales, and their LCD TV listings.

I bought it from J&R as they are one of the few retailers who carry this model… HIGHLY recommend it. And totally worth the price!

5 Stars Best BIG screen I’ve ever seen
I’ve had this 65″ Sony LCD for about a month now, and it is incredible. I replaced a 63″ Samsung plasma that I had just had delivered. The Samsung had a really clear picture but, despite its size, the picture just didn’t have the impact you expect from a screen that large. It just wasn’t bright enough. The Sony really took care of that. The colors are natural but they really “pop.” The clarity and brightness tremendous. And let’s face it, larger screens are a lot more fun to watch, as long as the picture quality is retained. Watching sports and movies on this set is mesmerizing. It reminds me of the first time I had an HD set and would watch anything, just because the picture was so phenomenal. Everything is a blast to watch on this TV. I can’t imagine how it could be improved (although I have it hooked up to a surround system, so I can’t comment on the TV speakers).

5 Stars Ignore reviews about wrong size for Sony BRAVIA W-Series KDL65W5100
The person who posted a review for this TV where he says the TV is only 61 or 62 inches is not correct. I am having one delivered in the next day or two however because of his review I went to Fry’s and RC Wiley and measured it myself. It is 64.5 inches which is what SONY indicated at their website. I will provide a further review once I have the set.

5 Stars Sony Bravia LCD
Could not be happier with the purchase and with Amazon. The Bravia set is as advertised, Sony quality for under $1,000. While this unit does not have all the “bells and whistles” of more expensive Sony units, it does not compromise on picture quality. I saw this set next to the competition at a ‘big box’ store and there is clearly a difference. I am glad I did not settle for less. I added one of the inexpensive Bravia surround systems for <$300 and now have an excellent home theater system.

5 Stars Great Television set
After reading review after review, I was a bit skeptical with this purchase…especially since it is pretty expensive. Well this has turned out to be a very good purchase for me. I have had no problems with the blacks as some reviews mention. t.v was really heavy and hard to put up on a wall mount; but other than that, the quality of the picture is awesome. I have to add, this is my first high-def big screen and i couldn’t be happier with this purchase. I don’t have anything to compare the 240Hz to, but I can’t complain about the clarity on the screen. Great purchase, do recommend.

5 Stars Great Deal On A Great Television
I bought this television after doing some pretty extensive research. I had almost decided on a Samsung, but after going to the store and looking at some of them, I decided that the Samsungs were way too glossy for my taste. I saw the 40″ version of this television on display at a store, and it looked fantastic. Very sharp picture, not glossy. The power saving features and having seen how good it looks in person got me very close to a decision, and the final piece of the puzzle was that it would fit on the stand I already have. That might sound silly, but it’s another $200-$300 for a decent stand. My stand is 20″ wide, and has about an 3/4″ lip on the edge. The stand on the Sony is about 18″ wide, and lifts the TV up over the lip, so it worked out quite nicely.

The service from Amazon was great on this. The free scheduled delivery worked out great. The company that delivered it (CEVA, I beleive) showed up early, and carried it up the stairs to the third floor for me. They offered to unpack it, which I declined, wanting to do it myself to make sure I could save the box for moving purposes.

It took me about 30 minutes to get the TV unpacked, the stand attached, and the TV up and running. Keep in mind, I was doing this by myself…it would have been quicker with a helper.

The picture on this TV is simply awesome! I watched The Descent on Blu-ray as my first movie, mainly because it’s a very dark movie, and I wanted to see what the black levels were like. The Sony did not disappoint. Most of the movie is set in dark caves, and most of the time, I couldn’t even see the edge between the dark movie and the edge of the letterbox.

The only bit of weirdness I’ve had, was at the very beginning of the movie, there’s a white water rafting scene that looked very strange to me at first. It turns out it was because the director of the movie had been using camera movement for dramatic effect, and the MotionFlow technology was canceling it out! It was easily fixed just by turning off MotionFlow. I plan on leaving it off, as I have noticed no blurring issues even with it off.

The only thing a wee bit lacking on this TV is the sound, but it’s not horrible, and honestly, if you’re willing to shell out the cash for this TV, then you should be willing to shell out for a good sound system too. Overall, I highly recommend this TV.

5 Stars Great Picture and Features, plus it’s eco-friendly
This is an excellent TV.

Picture Quality:

The picture quality of this set is superb. In the setup menu, I set the picture to “vivid” mode and the HD quality is simply life-like. The color and contrast are excellent. It also uses something that Sony calls MotionFlow which helps to smooth out the image when you are watching fast-action pictures.

Backlight Technology:

It is an LCD set, but uses a hot cathode fluorescent lamp for its backlighting. This technology allows it to be much more energy efficient and close to par with the energy usage of LED backlit LCD TVs. Most LCDs use cold cathode fluorescent lamps. The 40″ model uses a maximum of 140 watts, the 46″ uses a max of 160 watts, and the 52″ uses a max of 180 watts.

Eco-Friendly:

It has a sensor called a presence sensor that does two things. First it senses the ambient (room) light and if the room gets darker, it will automatically dim the picture of the TV. This works well if you are watching TV in the bedroom at night and you want less light output. The second thing that the sensor does is senses the room for motion and body heat. If you leave the room for a preset amount of time (5 min, 30 min, …) and the TV doesn’t sense anyone around, it will turn off the picture. If you walk back in the room, it senses you and turns the screen back on. The sound stays on for another 30 minutes or so, then the whole set will go into stand-by mode if it does not sense you. Both of these features can be turned off via the setup menu and help to conserve energy.

Features (just a few of them):

The TV is loaded with features. It will automatically sense if you have something connected to an input (for example HDMI2). This is great when you want to hit the input button on the remote because it will not select items that aren’t currently sending out a signal. This means you don’t have to scroll through 10 items if you only have two components connected to the TV. In the setup menu, you can set each input for always on, always off, or auto. I used the always on setting for the PC input because the cable I used to connect the PC did not send a power signal so the TV did not sense it. By setting it to always on, the PC input will always be available when I scan through the inputs.

It also has a lot of inputs. There are 4 HDMI inputs. If you have a DVI port on your PC, then you can connect it through HDMI port 1 which also has an analog audio input. There is one dedicated composite (with S-video) and one dedicated component input, but there is another switchable composite/component input that you can use if you have two composites and one component, or vice versa. There is a PC input to connect via VGA connection. The audio outputs are one optical digital out and one analog out.

Dislikes:

1. All of the Inputs and Output are on the left side (when looking at the front of the TV) of the TV. This is unfortunate for me since my A/V cabinet is on the right side of the TV. It is a minor inconvenience, but something that I did not think about until I got the set home. I would say about half of the inputs are one the left side and the other half are on the back, next to the side inputs.

2. The presence sensor is right where I have my center audio speaker. I will have to raise up the TV to still have that speaker front and center.

Overall, this is not a cheap TV, but I think this is a case where you get what you pay for. It is a really great set.

5 Stars Great TV
TV arrived before expected date. Delivery company contacted me and arrived within scheduled time frame. TV itself delivers a great picture. DVDs look great. No frame rate or delay issues with Xbox 360. Non-HD TV doesn’t look great, but since I watch mostly HD programming, this is not an issue. HD TV is crisp and bright. Power saving feature and auto brightness features are terrific. Had a rear projection LCD Sony before (it had optical block issues) and picture on this is equal or superior. Inputs are sufficient for everything I have. A great TV overall.

5 Stars Great Buy
I would recommend this TV to anyone who is thinking to buy it. Bought this from Dell and they have a great Customer service and also shipping was great. No problems from all sides. This is our first LCD and we are so pleased we bought this set. Great Features and Beautiful crisp clear picture. HD looks great..

Awesome, HUGE TV at a great price. I love this TV.. One really neat thing I noticed is that when the ambient light goes up or down in the room, the brightness of the display is dynamically adjusted accordingly. Like I said, awesome. Now if only it auto-muted commercials..

5 Stars My first Sony product and I have to say that I am impressed.
I had been apprehensive about pulling the trigger on an LCD TV for months now waiting for all these promised LED LCD TVs to become available from various manufacturers. With Samsung hitting the market first and disappointing most of us with their outrageous prices and availability with gloss screens only, they were quickly removed from my list of potential purchases. LG then hit the market with their model, which is very impressive, but with a $2400+ price tag, it was still a bit too much for my budget. Then there was Vizio which still hasn’t been able to apparently get the bugs out of their LED LCD TVs that were promised in June, then September, and now October. So needless to say they were removed from my list.

This model of Sony hit the shelves roughly around the same time as the Samsung LED TVs. Its specifications were pretty good, and the promise of low wattage similar to the LED LCDs was very attractive. What I wasn’t happy with was the fact that this is an 8-bit LCD panel as opposed to the 10-bit panels that the other manufacturer’s models used. A local retailer finally had the Sony in their show room, so I could see if the 8 bit panel made a difference, and after spending over an hour comparing its picture detail and clarity to the Samsung and LG models, I could not see anything negative about the Sony. In fact, to my eyes even the contrast differences between the LED models and this ECO series was negligible, and definitely not worth the extra price tag for the LED models. The color was also more natural on the Sony than the Samsung and LG models that were next to it. One of the most noticeable segments they had running was a cooking channel scene where the cook was making some broccoli dish. The broccoli on the other sets was almost fluorescent, but on the Sony it was a perfect medium dark green. I was sold.

Now with the KDL-52VE5 dropping from $2100 to what it is now, I decided I had waited long enough. Since my local retailer could not come close to Amazon’s price, I purchased it from Amazon. The set arrived within a week with the free shipping, and I have to say that the shipping company (Pilot) that delivered the set was great. The delivery man was very friendly and helpful. He quickly unpacked the new set, helped me take down my old (325 lb) 36 inch tube TV from its stand, placed the new TV up on the stand, and powered it up to verify that it was working. Great delivery service.

Now that I have the TV at home, I am 100% happy with the purchase so far. I was worried that I would be disappointed with the contrast ratio once I played a movie at night, but I couldn’t be happier. A 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio is just fine. I am very picky about how well a television handles black (as well as color), and this set produces blacks even better than the HD CRT set that it is replacing. The color is amazing. Playing any Pixar film with this set in vivid mode will blow your mind (or at least your kid’s minds). I haven’t had the time to tweak each of the picture settings, but I have to say that right out of the box this thing is amazing. I have simply been switching between standard and vivid depending on what we are watching and I couldn’t be happier with just these factory setups.

The sound from this is fine for watching anything that you don’t feel like firing up your surround sound receiver for. It is very clear, and has very good range for TV speakers.

I then had to test the power consumption with my kill-a-watt plug in meter. With the set in vivid mode, with the light sensor on in a daylight lit room, the set averages just 145 watts. In a dark room it uses even less, since the sensor automatically turns down the backlight level. Only 145 watts for a 52 inch television with 120 Hz motion correction. I’m impressed!

As far as longevity goes, only time will tell, but since this basically a standard Sony LCD with just a more efficient backlight setup, it should be fine. If things do go wrong in the future, I will make sure to update this review.

Anyway, if you are on a sub $2000 budget and want a great 52-inch TV that won’t jack up your electric bill, then this is the one to get (unless you want to wait yet another year).

5 Stars Sony is no baloney.
I have always had Sony tv’s in my house. My last 27″ lasted 21 years. The new one is remakable. It has all the bells and whistles you could ask for and is energy conservative as well. Once set up it is easy to use it to show displays of your Blu-ray DVD player with very little fuss. When a network is broadcasting in HD the picture looks as real as live. It has plenty of inputs to hook up into it,from computers to ipods. This is a must see to get item. Best anniversary gift I ever got.

3 Stars Color of TV
When purchasing this TV – no matter what the color of the television says in the description (ex. black, silver, or any other color) – that color will only be on the face of the TV, and the rest of it will be white. If you are aware of this, then you will not be shocked or disappointed when you unpack it. This is an example of a very poor description of a TV. The TV itself is fine.

5 Stars Not a bad TV….

5 Stars Worth Every Penny!!!
I’ve been waiting for the price to drop on this TV for several months. It finally came down to a point where I figure the next change will be the model being discontinued.

At $4,500, it ain’t cheap, considering that you can get 120MHz 1080p large screens for not much more than $1,000 these days. Samsung is coming out with a 65″ LCD soon for about six grand, and it will probably be eye popping.

So is it worth it to buy this model. Definitely yes!

I can’t tell you about things like judder, refresh rates, or all that technical stuff. I just know what common sense tells me. One thing is, with the recent acceptance of BluRay, 1080p will likely be around as a standard for high def for quite a while. Broadcast standards may improve to 1080p from 1080i, but I doubt it will be soon. So if you’re looking for higher res sets, it will likely be a long wait.

OK. so why spend the extra $3,000 since even the cheaper TVs are now 1080p?

The answer, contrast, black levels, exquisite picture quality. Look at any LCD TV and notice that black in the picture is nothing close to the black of the bezel on the TV. With the Sony XBR8, it is black. I guess you could get a black like that on a plasma set, but LCD is much more efficient, and for the amount of time my TV is on, that amounts to a lot of electricity (and generated heat).

In the end, I think this is as nice a picture as you could get in a TV this size, and considering that a lot of people spent $7,000 or more not long ago, at $4,500 it is a relative bargain.

I’m delighted with this purchase.
