Pixelation around fast moving objects in the new Samsung LED TV?
I just bought this new Samsung LCD TV LED edge-lit, 46-inch series 6000. The picture is incredible, but fast moving objects, when they cross the screen, which are surrounded by pixilation. I put the sharpness to 0, but not really do much. This is a 120Hz TV, and was told that this is an inevitable phenomenon. My question is, is this normal, or is the TV broken? Any help is highly appreciated. I would add that I realize this while watching both the standard definition DVD and Blu-ray. I am using a PlayStation 3 that is connected using an HDMI cable.
What we are seeing is an artifact created by the motion processor 120 Hz interpretive called “halos”. Halos are the result the difficulty of a processor in the creation of a detailed background seamlessly around fast moving objects in the frames of interpretation. On a Samsung TV, making Plus the motor control (below the picture settings) to “clean up” will help reduce the “halos”, but this option will fluctuation motion to creep back into the picture. The default setting of “Smooth” or the maximum value ( “Strong”) occur both significant “halos”. These artifacts are not unique LED HDTVs. Halos are produced by any and all LCD or LED / LCD TVs high definition using a process of interpretation 120 Hz as Samsung, Sony, Vizio, Sharp etc. do not use an interpretive process and therefore does not produce “halos” with its operation at 120 Hz plasma TVs do not produce motion artifacts such as motion blur or jitter LCD HDTV 120 Hz and does not require compensation. 120 Hz, without modes interpretation, plasma TVs produce neither Halos. Additional Data: In 2007, both Sony and Samsung recommends running at 120 Hz off when watching movies. In 2008, both companies updated their recommendation that the setting “Low”. The default value of Samsung in 2009 is “Smooth” setting. Leaving the configuration in “Smooth” will produce “halos” of fast moving objects with detailed background, regardless of the source material (ie Blu Ray or DVD).
